Henwood Britter & Caney is one of Durban’s oldest firms of attorneys, having been established in 1923. Whilst the partners have changed a number of times over the years, the original name of the firm has been retained in proud recognition of the accomplishments of our founding partners.

The first senior partner, C L Henwood, was a knowledgeable and well respected member of the profession whostayed in practice as an attorney for many years before his ultimate retirement. Britter, on the other hand, after a few decades in practice, left the attorneys profession to become a judge in the first Native Appeal Court, as it was known at the time.
